Teaching Pedagogies

SECONDARY STAGE

The Secondary Stage (Grades 9-12, covering ages 14-18) comprises four years of multidisciplinary study, building on the subject-oriented pedagogical and curricular style of the Middle Stage, but with greater depth, greater critical thinking, greater attention to life aspirations, and greater flexibility and student choice of subjects. As per NEP 2020, in particular, students would continue to have the option of exiting after Grade 10 and re-entering in the next phase to pursue vocational or any other courses available in Grades 11- 12, including at a more specialized school, if so desired.

Curriculum

The key overall thrust of curriculum and pedagogy at this stage is to move the education system towards real understanding and towards learning how to learn - and away from the culture of rote learning as is largely present today. For us, the aim of education is only for the cognitive development, but also for building character and creating holistic and well-rounded individuals equipped with the key 21st century skills. Ultimately, knowledge is a deep-seated treasure and education helps in its manifestation as the perfection which is already within an individual. To align the entire curriculum with NEP 2020, all aspects of curriculum and pedagogy have been reoriented and revamped to attain these critical goals. Specific sets of skills and values across domains are being identified for integration and incorporation at each stage of learning, from pre-school to higher education.

Curriculum is focused on concept not on content hence it is being redesigned aligning with the guidelines of CBSE, to its core essentials, to make space for critical thinking and more holistic, inquiry-based, discovery-based, discussion-based, and analysis-based learning. Teaching and learning are designed in a more interactive manner; questions are encouraged, and classroom sessions regularly contain more fun, creative, collaborative, and exploratory activities for students for deeper and more experiential learning.

English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, 2nd Language (Hindi/French/German/Sanskrit), Games & Vocational subjects (Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence) till grade 10 while a cluster of subjects on the level of grades 11 & 12 is offered to the students instead of the hard separations of the streams such as Science, Commerce & Humanities.

Special Programs are also offered to the students by the school such as Life Skills, Yoga, Health and Physical Education (HPE), Visual and Performing Arts, Various creative clubs, Awakened Citizen Program and many more.

Teaching Methodology

The Secondary stage curriculum is a skills-focused programme that provides students with a broad and balanced knowledge of key subjects, as well as effective critical thinking and communication skills. Explore how we equip our students for further academic studies. The essential subjects offered by the school to the students develop pupils' critical thinking and analytical skills and their ability to communicate ideas effectively. Students develop certain key skills that will allow them to be successful across all subject areas, and will assist with future challenges at university and in the workplace.

Our team of teachers assure that the children acquire a deeper understanding of every subject being offered in the school and able to identify and choose those subjects that they like and want to pursue. Children are encouraged to do research and projects. Our teachers are trained the way the pedagogy is connecting the textbook to the world in a real-time situation. Different techniques are employed to instil 21st-century skills, such as: Experiential learning, Game-based learning, Blended learning, Differential learning, Research-based learning, Peer teaching.

Assessment

As recommended by CBSE & NCERT, the assessment pattern is fully aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). Assessment that considers various aspects such as observing, research, self-learning skills, and helping children pursue areas of interest is adapted all across this stage. Group discussions, projects, field-trips, presentations, activities, and community service are intertwined into the subject of study. All students get the opportunity to take part in various scholastic and co-scholastic program that serves multiple purpose so as to ensure the holistic development of the child. Our focus is mainly on Assessment for learning (AfL) rather than Assessment of learning (AoL).

A continuous and comprehensive assessment pattern is followed where students are not only assessed on pen and paper tests, but also on various subject enrichment activities, SDG activities, research-based activities, art integrated activities, and artificial intelligence-based activities.

Throughout their time at Indirapuram Public School, Indirapuram, our assessment policy is key to supporting the continued achievement of all students and encourages them to become well-rounded individuals. Our targets are aspirational and encourage each student to ‘be ambitious’ as well as reflective and resilient in their approach to all challenges they face.
